Snow & Winter

For some time I’ve been working on a project called Woven Existences which features elements of the meadow at Craggy Bald in the Blue Ridge during each season of the year.  So far I’ve made studies for Spring, Summer and Autumn.  I’ve also painted Spring.  But winter in the Blue Ridge is often a difficult time when it comes to taking reference photos for the project, especially when I want my winter scene to include snow, because the part of the Parkway that passes near Craggy Bald is often closed for months at a time during the winter season.  

After facing this situation once again, I decided to approach the issue from another angle.  Using numerous references from the internet of the Blue Ridge with snow as well as my autumn photos, I was able to create a convincing snowy winter scene of Craggy Bald. This weekend’s snow here of several inches added inspiration. At last, I have a completed sketch for Winter.
