Poem for November

A dear friend wrote to me from miles across the sea. Weeks and then months passed. She sent another message. Confounded by the passing time, I replied right away. My response to her included what is now the first line of this poem.

Time Leaps Away Like a Gazelle

Time leaps away like a gazelle and I can only walk -
Sometimes on aching legs and feet weary from the chase,
Though my chaotic thoughts fly more fleet than speed of mach.
 
Time leaps away like a gazelle and I can only walk.
In glorious moments born of whim I sprint along apace
Then awake so far behind I cannot see the clock.  
 
Time leaps away like a gazelle and I can only walk;
I long to stride contentedly, unbothered by my pace,
Passing effortlessly, at peace, through time’s illusory lock.
 
It is only my perception…
Time leaps away like a gazelle
And I have no need to walk.
